We were very happy about that.

We recently spoke to Yuji Nakazawa, PSO two North America producer, about the match long-awaited coming in the West. Polygon: Please present yourself and in your own words explain your function on the PSO two team. I've been on and off of PSO2 Meseta this group. I started with Phantasy Star Universe in Japan and then also [functioned on] the release of the North American Xbox version of PSU.

I'm the manager for the U.S. launch of the Xbox version in addition to the Asian launch of PSO 2, that was released before the U.S. version. So I'm sort of the localization specialist. Is it a relief today that PSO 2 is finally from the West, for most of the English-speaking PSO fans who have been asking for it for ages? There's a feeling of relief [because] there was a lot of planning that went to the development; for instance, Sega U.S. and Sega Japan took polls in the fans about what they wanted in the game. However, as an internet game, I believe the true challenge is in keeping the service moving forward. So in February, we had the closed beta, and there was an unusually large number of participants. We heard a lot of players say they have been waiting eight long years for this launch. We were very happy about that.

Is this one reason the Western servers are separate from the Japanese servers? So you could roll out the later episodes in the right rate, instead of dump all of the Western players on the very same servers as players in Asia, who have experienced all of that content already? Or did it have to do with the consideration of information speeds?

It is a little bit of either. The main reason why we put it on another server for your U.S. launch was supposed to control the rolling from the stories and due to host capacity. The ease of play is one of the selling points of this game, and the space of the servers into the players affects latency, so we knew we wanted to have the servers physically closer to our players from North America. And although there are hardcore lovers [who'll play regularly and explore all of the content] from the North American region, there are many who are not knowledgeable about the franchise, and we did not believe it would be fair to release eight decades' worth of content at the same time. Can it have to cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta do with the microtransaction system and in-game purchases being quite distinct for Japan?
