Paper is mainly selected from two aspects, one is the type, and the other is the thickness (also called gram weight).

1. Type.

There are many types of paper, but the most common paper we see (not including special paper, special paper will be mentioned later), there are mainly two types, one is coated paper, and the other is book paper.

The coated paper has a coating on the surface, so it can be printed with brighter colors. Common fashion magazines, posters, and picture albums are mostly this type of paper. The thickness, brand, and surface brightness may be different (for example, the matte-looking coated paper is matte, and of course it may be treated), but the types are generally the same, and the coated paper is mainly white.

If it's books and magazines, if you feel heavy when you carry them, most of them are this type of paper. The printing shop you are talking about should be a fast printing shop on the street, which usually provides this type of paper.

2. Thickness.

The thickness of paper is generally described by the word "gram weight" (meaning how many grams per square meter of paper). For example, 200 grams of coated paper has a thickness of about 0.18 mm, and 250 grams of coated paper has a thickness of about 0.22 mm. How thick is this thickness? Many of the covers of large fashion magazines in newsstands are 200 or 250 grams. You can feel it.

For the same type of paper, different weights correspond to different thicknesses. There will be slight differences between different manufacturers and brands, but not much. But different types of paper, the same weight, the thickness will be very different. For example, 90g book paper is much thicker than 90g coated paper.

The thickness of the paper is based on market demand and production process restrictions. Different brands have some differences in weight selection, but the mainstream is basically these.
